A growing number of Taliban fighters in Afghanistan have traded in their old guerrilla weapons for more modern American hardware. In recent days, photos of those fighters show them hefting Made in the U.S.A. rifles and machine guns, and even driving Ford Ranger pickup trucks. Other Taliban-captured equipment includes military drones, helicopters, armored vehicles, biometric devices, and night-vision goggles.
Originally, the U.S. government spent billions of dollars on the equipment to arm Afghan forces. But with the collapse of the Afghan government over the weekend, those weapons are now equipping an entirely new set of owners. Read more…
